Salted Dulce de Leche Ice Cream

  • 1/2 cup Dulce de Leche
  • 1 teaspoon flakey sea salt
  • Ice Cream Base
  • 1/4 cup candied pecans

  1. Warm the Dulce de Leche in a microwave for a few seconds, or over a double boiler to soften slightly. Stir in the flakey sea salt (make sure it's flakey!).
  2. Pour the ice cream base into your ice cream maker and turn it on, freezing the ice cream base according to the manufacturer's directions.
  3. Within the last 5 minutes of the freezing process, pour in dollops of the salted Dulce de Leche so that there are ribbons of Dulce going throughout the ice cream. Pour in the candied pecans.
  4. Top with more candied pecans and enjoy!

The inspiration for this dessert came from the classic combination of sweet and savory (caramel and salt), and the amazing Latin-inspired flavor of Dulce de Leche. Replace caramel with the Dulce, and presto, you’ve got Salted Dulce de Leche ice cream! You can purchase pre-made Dule de Leche, or you can be adventurous and make your own from scratch. Enjoy!
