Brent: I have several BBQ sauce recipes I have been tweaking over the years. This one has gotten me lots of pats on the back so I thought it would be a good recipe to share here on Collab Kitchen. We recently used this with our Honey Barbecue Chicken Wings recipe and it completely blew my mind!
Honey BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, minced
- 8 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 to 1 1/2 cup Jack Daniel’s, or to taste
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 cups ketchup
- 2/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 1/2 cups molasses
- 3 cups honey
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon (or to taste) hot sauce (Tabasco or Cholula), optional
Instructions
- In a 6 quart saucepan over medium heat, saute minced onion and garlic until translucent, about 10 minutes. Add Jack Daniels into the saucepan and bring to a boil for 1 minute. (Add more Jack Daniel’s if a stronger flavor is desired.) Strain out onion and garlic from liquid if you don’t want chunks in your sauce. Add all the remaining ingredients and bring to boil. Reduce heat so sauce simmers, uncovered until it is reduced and thickened, about 15 to 20 minutes. Serve on your favorite grilled chicken, brisket or any other meat (even in baked beans!).
